In July 2022, Turkey saw a significant increase in its sunflower imports, reaching 120 thousand tons compared to just 14 thousand tons the previous year. The majority of these imports were sourced from Ukraine, with 107 thousand tons. Since the start of the 2021/22 marketing year (MY), Turkey's imports of Ukrainian sunflower oilseed have risen to 308 thousand tons from 58 thousand tons, while its total oilseed imports have been 569 thousand tons, a decrease from the previous MY's 833 thousand tons, due to reduced supplies from Bulgaria, Romania, and China. Sunflower oil imports in July slightly fell to 34 thousand tons, but exports of the product increased to 56 thousand tons. The main destinations for these exports were Ethiopia, Libya, and Lebanon, and since the start of the season, Turkey has exported 451,000 tons of sunflower oil, up from 413,000 tons in the previous marketing year. Additionally, sunflower meal imports in July increased to 41 thousand tons, with a total of 695 thousand tons imported since the start of the season, slightly below the amount from the 2020/21 season's October-July period.
