In 2020, Turkey saw a 29% increase in pomegranate exports, reaching a foreign currency income of $126.54 million and selling to 75 countries. Russia was the top buyer, with a 44% increase in imports, followed by Germany. Other growing markets included Iraq, Ukraine, the UK, Portugal, Brunei, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Nigeria, Togo, and Mauritania. The quality of Turkish pomegranates and efforts to reduce residues have contributed to this growth, particularly during the pandemic when demand for the fruit, known for its immune-boosting properties, increased.
