The Portuguese swine industry saw its best semester ever, with a turnover of around 911 million euros in the first half of 2021, as reported by the Portuguese Federation of Swine Producers Associations (FPAS). This period also marked the best export performance of pork and its derivatives in the industry's history, with a 10.8% increase in year-on-year terms. For the first time, Portugal's trade balance was under 100 million euros, and China became the main country with which Portugal conducts pork trade, marking a 169.7% increase in turnover. However, exports experienced instability due to a sudden halt in Chinese imports.
