Tunisia is facing a catastrophic grain harvest due to its fourth consecutive year of drought, which has extended to the normally rainy northwest region. The drought, aggravated by the ongoing Russian offensive in Ukraine, has led to dependent on imports and facing rising prices. The Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture has imposed water consumption restrictions and quotas. The country's main agricultural union predicts a grain harvest of between 100,000 and 150,000 tonnes, a significant decrease from last year's 7 million, and is calling for a strategy to increase water reserves and reduce agricultural irrigation.
