In 2020, the US Department of Agriculture reported a slight increase in total fruit imports, reaching $19.9 billion from $19.8 billion in the previous year. This growth was not substantial, as imports of fruits and preparations had only seen a marginal increase from $10.4 billion in 2010. The largest category, "Other fresh fruits," which includes avocados and bananas, remained stable at $10.1 billion. However, there were declines in some subcategories like avocados (down 12%), bananas (down 2%), blueberries (down 5%), raspberries (down 2%), and apple preparations (down 18%), while table grapes, citrus fruits, and frozen fruit experienced growth. Importantly, Peru saw a significant increase in its export growth to the US by 17%, reaching $1.7 billion, despite a decrease in imports from Mexico and Chile.
