Record high prices for oats in the US and Canada are due to drought in key growing areas, leading to a 54% price increase over the past three months. This is further compounded by American farmers reducing oat plantings due to high prices of other crops like wheat and corn. The US Department of Agriculture predicts a record low oat harvest this year. The rising prices of oats will ultimately lead to an increase in the cost of food and beverages, especially oatmeal and oat milk. However, Oatly Group AB, a Swedish oat milk producer, has secured sufficient supplies of oats at an affordable price for 2021 and 2022.
