In 2022, the United States set new records for seafood trade, with a 2% increase in volume and a 7% increase in value in imports, reaching a total of 3,362,079 tons valued at $30.4 billion. Shrimp and salmon were the most imported seafood items. Despite a decrease, exports also reached 1,195,949 tons, valued at $5.2 billion. Asia, led by China, is the largest seafood exporter to the US, while the US exports salmon, Alaska pollock, and lobster to over 90 countries, with Canada, China, and Japan as the top importers. The trade dynamics have shifted due to the pandemic and ongoing trade disputes, impacting the volume and value of imports and exports from different countries.
