The Thai government, led by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, is taking significant steps to boost domestic soybean production by including genetically modified (GMO) soybeans, marking a departure from its previous stance that only permitted non-GMO beans. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security. In support of this effort, the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC), with Timothy Loh and CEO Jim Sutter, underscores the critical role of the ASEAN region as a market for US soybeans, emphasizing the US's commitment to being a reliable supplier of high-quality agricultural products. Additionally, the USSEC is advocating for sustainable practices in the food and agribusiness sectors within Southeast Asia, collaborating with Thai producers to promote the sustainable sourcing of food and animal feed ingredients, in line with the global shift towards plant-based diets and sustainable agriculture.
