The FruitVeB Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organization forecasts an average vegetable production volume for the year, with potential fluctuations in the next 2-3 months. The country grows vegetables across 83,500 hectares, with a majority under open cultivation and a smaller portion under sprouted culture. The greenhouse production of fresh market peppers, tomatoes, and snake cucumbers accounts for 90% of their total production, reducing vulnerability to weather conditions. Green pea cultivation for processing has seen a 10% decrease, while sweet corn is planted on 33,000 hectares to meet industry demands. The success of industrial tomato and root vegetable crops hinges on favorable weather conditions. Onion and garlic yields are expected to surpass the previous year's, but garlic's is slightly compromised by rainy weather. Ongoing labor challenges due to the pandemic have not significantly affected average yields and have been balanced by market prices.
