Venezuela is the only country in North and South America dealing with foot-and-mouth disease, according to the president of the National Federation of Cattlemen of Venezuela, Luis Prado. The country has made strides in recovering its herd and increasing meat consumption per capita, but the disease could limit meat exports. Prado's goal is to have Venezuela recognized as a country free from foot-and-mouth disease by 2025. The livestock sector is calling for more resources and financing to achieve food sovereignty and double the national herd.
