Vietnamese rice exports to Africa experienced a high of $692.6 million in 2021, but there was a decline of 10.5% in 2022 due to global food stockpiling and COVID-19 disruptions. In 2023, exports recovered, reaching a value of $788 million. Despite competition from other countries, there is growing demand for fragrant rice in Africa, which is currently mainly imported from Việt Nam, the US, and Canada. The Asia-Africa Market Department and other experts recommend refining export mechanisms, creating favorable conditions for businesses, leveraging bilateral cooperation frameworks, improving transparency in the rice market, and focusing on post-harvest technologies and workforce training to increase market share and build trust with African consumers.
