The price of green-skinned pomelo in Hanoi, Vietnam has significantly increased, with one fruit now costing between 55,000 VND and 70,000 VND, depending on the weight. This is due to scarce supply and high demand for exports. The high price is affecting sales, with customers buying smaller quantities. The Department of Crop Production estimates the total pomelo output in 2023 to be 1.1 million tons, but the second quarter will see the lowest output of about 90,000 tons, concentrated in the southern region. Some pomelo exports to the US and China are contributing to the price increase.
