The Vietnamese sugar industry has achieved the highest sugar productivity in the region for the first time, as reported by the Vietnam Sugarcane and Sugar Association (VSSA). This achievement is due to the industry's growth, which includes the use of mechanisation in production, new technologies, trade defence measures, and increased sugar yield. The mechanisation rate for land preparation has exceeded 90%, and some sugar companies are experimenting with Industry 4.0 solutions from countries like the US and Australia to digitise sugar mill management. The industry has seen consecutive increases in sugarcane output and production for four years, with a rise in the purchase price for sugarcane from farmers. The VSSA plans to further increase the harvested area of sugarcane and sugar output in the 2024-25 crop, and has called on stakeholders to strengthen production linkages, combat sugar trade fraud, and adopt measures for sustainable development.
