According to statistics from Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, cashew exports in August 2025 reached approximately 70,000 tons, with an export value of about 431 million USD. Cumulatively, from the beginning of 2025 to August, cashew exports reached 482,700 tons, with an export value of 3.24 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 16.4%, despite a 1.2% decrease in export volume. The average export price of 6,711 USD per ton reached a new high in many years, reflecting the strong global demand for nutritious nuts.
China, the United States, and the Netherlands are Vietnam's three largest cashew export markets, accounting for 21.7%, 20%, and 9.4% of the total export value, respectively. Among them, exports to China increased by 47%, to the Netherlands by 20.1%, while to the United States they decreased by 11.7%. Among the 15 major export markets, Latvia had the highest growth rate at 57%.
Despite the slowdown in demand for cashew kernels in the U.S. market, there is an increasing demand for deeply processed cashew products, creating opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises to improve the proportion of deep processing and the value of their products.
To meet domestic production needs and ensure raw material supply, Vietnam has imported cashew raw materials worth 3.3 billion USD, mainly from Cambodia, Côte d'Ivoire, Tanzania, and Ghana, with Cambodia leading at 1.5 billion USD. Due to its proximity and low logistics costs, cashew raw materials from Cambodia help Vietnamese enterprises reduce processing costs and ensure stable processing activities.
However, the Vietnamese cashew industry still faces many challenges, such as increasingly stringent requirements from the U.S. and the EU on traceability, pesticide residues, and sustainable production, especially the "zero deforestation" planting, which is a major barrier. At the same time, price and tariff competition from African countries cannot be ignored.
Despite these challenges, Vietnam still has advantages in deep processing capabilities, stable supply, and international branding. The global cashew market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 4.6% from 2022 to 2027, and the trend of healthy snack consumption is providing convenience for the cashew industry.
Based on this, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam will continue to take synchronized measures to support the sustainable development of the cashew industry, increase export efforts, promote the construction of clean raw material zones, data traceability, and national brand building, and actively expand potential markets in the Middle East and the EU.
With price advantages, market shifts, and favorable consumer trends, under the effective coordination of the government, enterprises, and the cashew value chain, the goal of achieving an export value of 4.5 billion USD in 2025 is entirely feasible.
