In the first quarter of 2023, US clam imports experienced a decrease, with volume down 15% and value down 26% compared to the same period in 2022. This decline is attributed to reduced demand and a 12% drop in average import prices. The US imported from 19 countries, with China being the dominant supplier (46% in volume, 32% in value). Vietnamese clam imports to the US fell by 45%, holding a 13.5% market share. The US imports mainly canned clams, which make up a third of the volume and value of imports. The average price of imported clams from Vietnam and China was around 3 USD/kg, a decrease of 11% from the previous year.
