During the 2021-2022 export-import campaign, the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) noted 658 notifications, primarily concerning high pesticide levels in fruits and vegetables from or sent to the European Union. Turkey emerged as the main contributor with 356 notifications, followed by Bulgaria, Greece, and Egypt, with various agricultural products leading to the violations. The situation resulted in supply issues and price surges, particularly in Ukraine due to cold weather, high energy costs, and the need for alternative fuel solutions, driving interest in frozen vegetables.
