Southern Queensland grain farmers are welcoming timely rainfall as they begin the process of planting their 2021 winter crops, following a period of unsettled weather that led to significant rainfall across the region. The Bureau of Meteorology predicts a wetter than normal autumn across much of north and eastern Australia, continuing a trend influenced by the weakening La Nina. In January, Australia's wheat exports remained strong, with Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam being the largest importers. Queensland exported around 125,000 tonnes of wheat, contributing to total season exports of about 750,000 tonnes. However, local grain prices have seen a decrease after the recent rainfall, particularly for sorghum and stocks feed wheat.
