The European Union (EU) is contemplating new sanctions against Russia, which may include a ban on the import of Russian fish, particularly pollock, which currently makes up over 70% of the EU's imports of this fish. The proposal is led by the Baltic countries, who argue that Russian fishing trawlers are encroaching on their territorial waters. Despite the potential impact on Germany, which relies heavily on Russian fish for processing due to its lack of deep-sea fishing capabilities, the EU is set to discuss these restrictions after the summer break. The US, the second largest supplier of pollock to Europe, has already banned the import of Russian Alaskan pollock.
