The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (Senamhi) reported that the southwestern highlands of the country are experiencing rainfall below normal levels during the current rainy period of 2025-2026. This deficit is due to the presence of westerly wind flows, which limit the entry of humidity into the highlands, necessary for the formation of convective clouds and the occurrence of rainfall. The western highlands of the regions of Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna, and Puno presented rainfall deficiencies reaching anomalies of up to -100% during the last 10 days of October. Specialists from Senamhi detailed that conditions of low humidity are expected to persist until November 15, which will continue to limit rainfall in the southwestern highlands and southern Puno.
