The South Korean government is taking measures to stabilize the supply and demand for kimchi ingredients in 2022, aiming to reduce the burden of kimchi making and prevent a rise in consumer prices. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups will promote the supply of stockpiled items for ingredients expected to decrease in supply, and will provide discounts on major kimchi ingredients. Discounts will be provided on garlic, red pepper, onion, sea salt, and seafood, with up to 30% discount for consumers in some cases. The government will also operate a team to ensure smooth supply of kimchi ingredients and discount support, and provide information on discount events and price forecasts during the kimchi season.
