Just like in the 90s, Argentina imports everything. What is surprising is that this also includes the meat sector, a hallmark food of the country along with mate and tango.
The first alarm signals emerged in the pork sector, then the entry of beef was reported and now poultry meat. In all three cases, the supplier is Brazil. The imports of these three meats have seen a significant jump in volume and currency, and already total 150 million dollars.
The sector most affected by this liberal policy is pork meat. So far in 2025, 28,000 tons have entered, costing 90 million dollars. This amount of meat represents 7% of the production achieved this year, and at this rate, a record total close to 60,000 tons is expected.
