In 2021, Nigeria's imports from the United States included wheat and ethanol, with a total value of $626.59 million, as per US Department of Agriculture data. This marks a 45% increase in the value of US agricultural exports to Nigeria between 2020 and 2021. Despite Nigeria's vast land, the country relies heavily on imported food and agricultural products due to underperformance in its agricultural sector. Nigeria spent N1.97 trillion on food and agricultural imports in 2021, a figure expected to rise due to ongoing floods. The country imports over 90% of its wheat. Kabir Ibrahim, president of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, attributed low agricultural productivity to factors such as inflation, insecurity, and recent flooding.
