In 2022, the US witnessed a decline in seafood imports, with a 2% drop in volume in November compared to the same period in the previous year. The total import volume for the year reached over 2.9 million tons, marking a 3% increase, while the value hit 27.5 billion USD, showing a 9% increase. Despite the decline, shrimp imports fell by 19%, and there was a decrease in the demand for other crustaceans and molluscs due to inflation. However, tuna and salmon imports saw an increase. Vietnam emerged as the fifth largest seafood supplier to the US, contributing nearly 10% to the import volume and 8% to the value. Vietnam, Chile, and Indonesia saw an increase in imports, while there was a decrease from Canada and India. China is the largest supplier of seafood to the US, followed by Canada and then Vietnam, with a focus on tilapia, cod, and pangasius respectively. There is currently uncertainty in China's factory personnel situation due to an increase in COVID cases following the lifting of all blockade orders.
