The Colombian livestock sector experienced an 8.8% economic growth in the first half of 2021, recovering from a -7.4% growth in the same period in 2020, driven by increased spending by companies and households, and the positive impacts of the National Vaccination Plan. The sector saw a 4% rise in bovine and buffalo cattle profit. Slaughter of bovines increased by 4.4%, driven by the recovery of household income and better dynamics of meat exports, which grew by 71.5% compared to the same period in 2020. Live animal exports also increased by 8.8%. However, the sector faced a 4.6% drop in industrial stockpiling of milk, with imports of milk and dairy products decreasing due to the high exchange rate and international prices. Exports of milk and dairy products improved, increasing by 131% in the first half of 2021.
