A new wheat variety named 'Winged' has been developed as part of the 'Wheat Improvement Project' in Turkey, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and TÜBİTAK 1003. This variety is early, drought-tolerant, and adaptable, and is expected to be delivered to seed companies and farmers in the near future for the 2023-2024 agricultural season. It is particularly suited for biscuit production but can also be used in bread production. The variety was developed over 15 years and was named in honor of the late Firuz Kanatlı, a key figure in the biscuit industry in Eskişehir.
