The early cherry harvest in Bulgaria is imminent, but over half of the 'Early Lori' variety has been damaged by recent heavy rains. Despite the setback, the crop is expected to be sold domestically, as exporting cherries is becoming increasingly challenging. Miroslav Chernikov, a grower from North-Eastern Bulgaria, emphasizes the need for high-quality produce and notes that the cost of the cherries this year will become clear as harvesting begins. Chernikov also highlights the challenges ahead, including the logistics of transporting high-risk goods and the worsening labor shortages in the fruit-growing sector, with an anticipated influx of workers from Bangladesh to address these issues.
