In September, global vegetable oil prices decreased by 3.9%, marking the second consecutive monthly decline, according to the FAO. This drop was due to decreases in palm, sunflower, soybean, and rapeseed oil prices, driven by factors such as seasonal increases in production and abundant export supplies. Despite this, the FAO food price index remained largely unchanged in September compared to August, with reductions in vegetable oils, dairy, and meat prices offsetting increases in sugar and grain prices.
