Canadian farmers have planted 6.34 million acres of durum wheat, expected to yield 5.66 million tons, with potential supplies reaching 6.5 million tons. The US has also increased its durum planting by 21%. However, the durum market is facing challenges due to uncertain production in Turkey, which sold 1.5 million tons in the 20223-2024 season. Meanwhile, North Africa, especially Morocco, is expected to have its lowest wheat crop since 2016-2017 due to drought. Algeria has been the largest buyer of Canadian durum in the 2023-2024 season. Italy and Mexico are also expected to have reduced durum harvests, while France is dealing with excess rain. The durum market's dynamics are further complicated by Russia's behavior as a supplier to the EU.
