India, the world's largest rice exporter, is considering a ban on the export of most rice varieties to avoid further inflation and increased food prices. If implemented, this ban could affect around 80% of India's rice exports and potentially drive up rice prices globally, which are already at an 11-year high due to the El Nino weather phenomenon causing drought. Rice prices in Asia are also at their highest level in over two years as importers hoard due to concerns about the impact of El Nino on crop output.
