Young people in agriculture: The Commission with a package of measures to attract a new generation of farmers

The European Commission (EC) has presented a "Strategy for the Renewal of Generations in Agriculture," which sets out a clear roadmap for supporting young farmers and attracting more people to farming. The strategy aims to double the share of young farmers in the EU by 2040, with the goal of young and new farmers making up around 24% of European farmers. With this vision, the EC recommends that member states, especially those lagging behind, invest at least 6% of their agricultural spending in measures promoting generational renewal, with the possibility of mobilizing additional resources. The strategy also includes the development of national strategies for the renewal of generations in agriculture by 2028, in which they will address existing barriers and identify targeted steps for support.
