The article highlights the government's initiative to deliver maize seeds for the 2022/2023 farming season to the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) depots in Matabeleland provinces, Zimbabwe, as part of the Climate-Proofed Presidential Inputs Scheme (Intwasa/Pfumvudza). The scheme aims to provide agricultural inputs to millions of farmers across the country to boost crop production and productivity, with each farming household receiving an input package. The distribution of these inputs will be based on agro-ecological regions to maximize program effectiveness and account for potential rainfall variability. The government has already delivered over 2,200 tonnes of seed to GMB depots nationwide and targets to cultivate 2 million hectares of maize, 380,000 hectares of sorghum, and 250,000 hectares of pearl millet. This large-scale cultivation is designed to meet and exceed national requirements for both human consumption and industrial use, positioning Zimbabwe as a significant grain producer in the region.
