Zimbabwe is considering exporting excess maize and wheat to other countries in Africa as the country has achieved food self-sufficiency and exceeded its agriculture sector economy target ahead of schedule. The country achieved this through various agricultural programs and projects that improved output and ensured access to sufficient food for its citizens. Zimbabwe registered a bumper harvest of over three million tonnes of grain in 2021 and for the first time in 56 years, the country harvested more wheat than it needed, creating a surplus and saving foreign currency.
