Estimated Argentine Orange Harvest Drops to 800K Tons in the 2022/23 Season (Jan 9)
Argentina's lemon and mandarin harvests will be lower this 2022/23 due to adverse weather conditions. Heavy hailstorms in July 2022 in northeastern Argentina caused fruit loss and damaged trees. The harvest of oranges will drop to 800K tons and that of mandarins to 380K tons. Orange exports are also expected to drop to 60K tons due to the smaller harvest.

High Prices of American Oranges in the Chinese Market for W1 (Jan 9)
American oranges started to arrive for the 2023 season in the Shanghai wholesale market on January 3, 2023. The quality and sale speed are both normal. American oranges are highly expensive to buy. In W1, prices for each size stood as follows:
88 pcs: USD 64.34/20kg
113 pcs: USD 52.64/20kg
The first batch of Egyptian oranges for the 2023 season arrived by sea at the Shanghai wholesale market on January 7, 2023. The variety is Navel, and the selling price for 64 pcs stood at USD 38.41/15kg. No pallets were sold in W1 as the price was high, and the fruit showed some quality issues.
American Oranges Keep Strong Selling Prices for W2 in the Chinese Market (Jan 10)
The wholesale market in Guangzhou is still seeing good sales of American oranges in W2. Due to good arrival quality and taste, all the fruits have been sold out. The selling prices for W2 stood as follows:

Second Shipment of Egyptian Oranges Arrived in the Shanghai Market for W2 (Jan 11)
On January 9, 2023, a second shipment of Egyptian oranges for the 2023 season arrived by sea at the Shanghai wholesale market. The variety of the oranges was navel, the price was USD 28.06-29.53/15kg (RMB 190-200/15 kg), and the size (pieces) were 64 and 72. There was only one container available for the shipment of the second batch. That day, three pallets were sold.
Good Quality Egyptian Oranges for 2023 Season Was Sold in W2 in the Chinese Market (Jan 12)
On January 11, 2023, the Guangzhou market started selling the first container of this 2023 season's Egyptian oranges. The oranges' arrival quality was high, with nice firmness coloration and clean skin, but the taste is not quite as good as the appearance, with a more sour taste. The selling prices for Egyptian oranges stood as follows:
56 & 64pcs: USD 26.64-28.11/15kg carton box (RMB 180-190/15kg carton box)
72pcs were not sold due to smaller sizes.
Higher Selling Prices of Egyptian Oranges on January 12, 2023 in the Guangzhou Market (Jan 13)
On January 12, 2023, two containers of Egyptian oranges opened to sell in the Guangzhou market. The selling price has increased to USD 1.48/box (RMB 10/box). The reference prices stood as follows:
56pcs: USD 30.44/15kg carton(RMB 205/15kg carton),
64pcs: USD 28.96/15kg carton (RMB 195/15kg carton),
However, 72 pieces are still hard to sell as the consumer does not desire little fruits, they may sell for roughly USD 22.27/15kg carton (RMB 150/15kg carton).
Japan
Citrus Exports From Turkey to Japan Increased Significantly in 2022 Compared to 2021 (Jan 12)
The amount of Turkish citrus fruit in the Japanese market continues to increase. In December 2021, 181.69MT of Turkish oranges worth USD 174,074 were exported to Japan, whereas 732.25MT of oranges worth USD 658,484 were exported in December 2022, representing a 300% YoY increase in export volume. Additionally, 142.62MT of grapefruit were exported in December 2021, an increase of 500% YoY to 951.55MT in 2022. Turkish exporters are working hard to conquer the Japanese market.
