Tanzanian Farmers Agreed to Auction off 1143 MT of Cashews at the MAMCU Cooperative Union (Dec 27)

Tanzanian farmers agreed to sell 1143 MT of standard-grade raw cashew nuts at the 10th auction conducted by the MAMCU cooperative union at Mtwara District in the Mtwara region. The highest bid price was USD 0.78/kg, and the lowest bid offer was USD 0.73/kg. A total of eight companies participated in this auction at MAMCU Cooperative Union, and the number of companies participating in the auction is dropping as the season is concluding. There is an average price drop of USD 0.04/kg compared to W50's auction price at the union.

Tanzania Opens New Markets for Processed Cashew Nuts in Germany and the Netherlands (Dec 27)

The Tanzania Cashew Board, in collaboration with development stakeholders, launched the export of cashew kernels through small factories in the Tandahimba district to the Netherlands and Germany. An average of 26MT of cashew kernels and 1MT of cashew apples have been sought for a new market in Europe. Out of 26MT of these processed cashews, factories in the Tandahimba-Mtwara district sent 12MT to Germany and 14MT to the Netherlands.

Tanzanian farmers agreed to sell 2,125MT of standard-grade raw cashew nuts at the 10th auction conducted by the RUNALI Cooperative Union in the Nachingwea District in the Lindi region. The highest bid price was USD 0.81/kg, and the lowest bid offer was USD 0.75/kg.

The Cashew Production in Tanzania Increased By 14% in Two Years (Dec 30)

The production of cashews has increased by 14% in the past two years following various steps taken by the government and other stakeholders to boost crop farming. According to the Cashew nut Board of Tanzania (CBT), the General Director reported the production of raw cashews has increased by 14% from 210,786.804 tonnes in 2020/21 to 240,158.752 tonnes in 2021/22.

Turkish Giresun Hazelnut Prices Are on the Rise Due to an Increase in Demand (Dec 30)

The Turkish Giresun hazelnut price exceeds USD 3/kg in the free market and is on an upward trend. At the start of W52, the price stood at USD 2.90/kg and will close the week at USD 3.20/kg with a significant increase. Hazelnut prices will remain stable for a while due to the increase in the consumption of hazelnuts with the new year approaching.

Macadamia Farmers in Kenya Produced Over 65K MT in 2022 (Dec 26)

The chairman of the Nuts Traders Association of Kenya reports that in 2022, farmers produced more than 65K MT of macadamia. Prices were stable at USD 0.73/kg (KES 90). The stable pricing is due to the healthy business competition by the numerous processors.
