Europe Will Audit Argentine Citrus Farms (Feb 6)

José Luque, the director of SENASA's NOA SOUTH Regional Center, was greeted by Tucumán's Minister of Productive Development, Lvaro Simón Padrós, to coordinate the activity of provincial and national public organizations involved in the production of citrus in Argentina. The audits are part of the opening of the European market to Argentine citrus, after the suspension of Argentine lemon exports to the European Union in July 2020 due to the large number of inspections that detected a black spot on lemons. The ban was lifted in mid-2021, and the application of the opening to the importation of Argentine citrus into the EU will come into effect this May 2023.

Iranian Citrus Export 150KT, of Which 5KT of Lemons (Feb 6)

In the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 to December 21, 2022), Iran exported 150KT of citrus worth USD 56M (EUR 52.5M), out of which 5KT of lemons.

Peru

Peru Exported 24,668T of Tahiti Lemon for USD 26M in 2022 (Feb 8)

Peruvian Tahiti lemon remittances increased 38% YoY in volume and 57% YoY in value in 2022 due to an increase in price received by importers. Exports to the US totaled 6.91K tons for USD 9M, 226% higher in volume and 278% higher in value compared to 2021.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia Starts Planting 49M Fruit and Lemon Trees (Feb 7)

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has begun implementing the first phase of two initiatives to plant 49M fruit and lemon trees in different areas, as part of the Saudi Green Initiative. It concerns 45M fruit trees in terraces and 4M lemon trees with reusable water by 2030.
