Sudan has seen a significant increase in the price of meat, with a kilo now costing 195 pounds, up from 165 pounds earlier in the year and 135 pounds in March. This price hike, which affects consumer complexes, is due to ongoing conflicts in Khartoum and challenges in meat supply operations. The Holding Company for Food Industries, part of the Ministry of Money Supply, has noted the second price increase this year and is considering meat imports from Chad and Somalia to diversify sources and address any shortages from Sudan. A contract between the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade and the Sudanese Ettijahat Company until January 2024 ensures the continued supply of fresh meat to Egypt, making it the primary source of meat for the country.
