Over the past two decades, the Chinese blueberry market has grown significantly, with Peru becoming the leading supplier, providing 89% of China's blueberry imports by 2024. This growth is fueled by China's rising demand for healthy foods, especially among urban middle- and upper-class consumers. Peruvian producers have catered to Chinese preferences for large, sweet, and firm blueberries by investing in new varieties and maintaining high-quality standards. Since entering the Chinese market in 2016, Peru's blueberry exports have increased at an average annual rate of 21%, reaching 35,000 tons by 2024, thanks to Peru's favorable agroclimatic conditions, genetic innovation, and rigorous quality control.
