The Ministry of Agriculture in Egypt has imported 53,850 tons of European potato seeds for the 2022-2023 season, valued at approximately $32.3 million. The seeds were sourced from the Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland, Denmark, France, Luxembourg, and Germany, and are distributed across 65 varieties. The largest varieties imported include 'Sponta' with 18,574 tons and 'Hermes' with 7,621 tons. The seeds are expected to be planted in December for harvest in May. This comes as potato prices in the Egyptian market have increased, with a ton ranging from 6,000 to 11,000 pounds, depending on quality.
