Algeria is looking to import up to 5,000 tons of meat from Colombia for the Ramadan season, making it one of the largest markets for Colombian meat. The technical secretary of the Stabilization Fund for the Promotion of Meat, Milk and Derivatives Exports (FEP), Augusto Beltrán Segrera, has confirmed discussions with Algerian authorities to sign a memorandum of understanding for this trade. The process includes health certificate definitions and recognition of Colombian meat exporting plants and Islamic centers. The first shipment, recognized by Invima and audited by Algeria, is expected to leave Colombia by the end of March, in time for Ramadan.
