Extensive snowfall is no longer expected in Hungary this year, and there is little chance of a white Christmas, as more weather taboos are being broken. The global climate change experienced today is often misunderstood, and many identify it "only" with the increase in average temperature. However, an even more unfavorable consequence is the increasing frequency of weather extremes. Hungary must now reckon with weeks-long, very hot droughts, and even in some places, devastating flash floods are alarming the population as a result of unexpectedly heavy rainfall. We must also slowly forget the old stereotypes, such as calling Szeged "the city of sunshine." The county seat of Csongrád-Csanád was indeed characterized by hot summers and relatively mild, snow-poor winters, and in that region of the country one could expect the most sunshine, with a measure of 1,900–2,000 hours per year.
