(Anseong=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Kwang-ho = Anseong City, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 10th that it is making all-out efforts to block the spread of transmission following the confirmation of H5 avian influenza antigen at a laying hen farm in Gongdo-eup on the 9th, amid the occurrence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) across the country. On this day, the city held a highly pathogenic AI disaster safety countermeasures meeting at the disaster control center of the city hall, with 18 people in attendance, including officials from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Gyeonggi Province, police stations, fire stations, and related city departments. In this meeting, the current status of highly pathogenic AI occurrence and the progress of disease control were checked, and future disease control measures to prevent the spread of the disease and improve upon current methods were discussed. The city decided to mobilize all available disease control resources and administrative power to prevent the spread of AI within the city limits. The highly pathogenic nature of the AI at the laying hen farm in Gongdo-eup is currently under detailed examination by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency. A city official said, "With livestock diseases occurring consecutively across the country, it is more important than ever for livestock farms to follow disease control guidelines," and added, "We will actively cooperate with related departments to promote disease control guidelines and provide support to poultry farms."
