The 2022/23 apple crop in the South of Brazil is facing potential harm due to erratic weather conditions, particularly affecting the production of gala and fuji apples in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. Incorrect weather conditions during the periods of budding, flowering, and initial fruit development have adversely impacted these apple varieties. However, early apples such as eva, grown in Porto Amazonas and Lapa do Paraná, are expected to have a positive harvest due to anticipated low temperatures in May and a satisfactory winter, which have favored the dormancy of the orchards and extended the fruit filling period. The eva harvest in Paraná is predicted to start in the first half of December, with an increased volume and larger fruit size compared to the previous campaign.
