Leaders in Canada, the US, and Mexico are taking steps to prevent African Swine Fever (ASF) from entering North America, as the disease continues to spread globally, particularly in Europe and Russia. Canada is investing up to $9.6 million CAD in projects to prevent ASF, and the US is hosting forums and offering a dedicated website for awareness. The US is also developing a national certification program to safeguard swine health. The Philippines is in the final stages of trials for an ASF vaccine, and Vietnam is commercially using a vaccine despite concerns. A new pig cell line for growing ASF viruses has been identified in Uganda, and a European project is working on developing an ASF vaccine.
