Argentina maintains its dominance in the wheat and flour sector in Latin America, as highlighted at the ALIM 2024 Congress in Asunción, Paraguay. The country has the highest number of mills despite having the smallest population among the top three countries. Argentina's wheat is largely self-produced and is exported to Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and Chile, while it also imports wheat from other countries. In 2023, the region produced 27.7 million tons of wheat flour to meet the demands of approximately 663 million people, with Argentina being the second largest producer of flour behind Brazil. The country also has the highest per capita consumption of wheat and cookies in South America.
