In March, Australia saw a significant decrease in chickpea and lentil exports, with chickpea exports dropping by 75% to 73,783 tonnes due to the end of the tariff-free period for India, and lentil exports falling by 11% to 131,447 tonnes. Despite the decrease, India remained a significant market for both legumes, ranking as the second-largest destination for lentils in March. Other major markets included Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Approximately 85% of Australia's record chickpea crop for 2024-25 was exported in the first half of the shipping year, while two-thirds of the lentil crop was also shipped.
