I. Apple Production and Sales Situation in the 2024 Season
(I) Planting Area
According to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, the national apple planting area in 2024 slightly decreased to 1901.7 thousand hectares, a 1.4% decrease year-on-year (Figure 1).

Among the ten major production areas, three areas saw a slight increase in planting area, five areas saw a decrease, and two areas remained stable. The areas with increased planting area are: Gansu Province with a 0.3% year-on-year increase, Shandong Province with a 1.2% year-on-year increase, and Xinjiang Autonomous Region with a 4.7% year-on-year increase. The areas with decreased planting area are: Shaanxi Province with a 0.9% year-on-year decrease, Liaoning Province with a 1.6% year-on-year decrease, Shanxi Province with a 7.1% year-on-year decrease, Hebei Province with a 2.0% year-on-year decrease, and Henan Province with a 1.0% year-on-year decrease. The areas of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces remained basically stable.
(II) Production Situation
The total national apple production in 2024 was 5128.5 million tons, a 3.4% increase year-on-year. Among the top ten apple-producing provinces in the country, except for Shanxi and Liaoning provinces, which saw a certain degree of decline, all other production areas saw varying degrees of increase (Figure 3).

Specifically, Shaanxi Province produced 1449.9 million tons, a 5.4% year-on-year increase; Shandong Province produced 1073.9 million tons, a 3.3% year-on-year increase; Gansu Province produced 538.9 million tons, a 5.3% year-on-year increase; Henan Province produced 423.8 million tons, a 0.3% year-on-year increase; Shanxi Province produced 418.5 million tons, a 5.2% year-on-year decrease; Hebei Province produced 281.9 million tons, a 4.6% year-on-year increase; Liaoning Province produced 280.0 million tons, a 3.1% year-on-year decrease; Xinjiang produced 229.6 million tons, a 6.3% year-on-year increase; Sichuan Province produced 110.0 million tons, a 7.7% year-on-year increase; and Yunnan Province produced 78.8 million tons, a 5.3% year-on-year increase (Figure 4).

(III) Apple Market Operation Situation
The 2024 production season saw relatively little impact from extreme weather in various production areas, and the rate of high-quality fruit increased compared to the previous production season.
1. Price
The purchase price for apples (80mm grade two and above) in the 2024 production season decreased overall, with the opening price at 6.98 yuan/kg, a 20.8% decrease from the previous production season. After the opening, the purchase price continued to decline (Figure 5).

The national average purchase price was 7.02 yuan/kg, a 13.2% decrease from the previous production season. The national wholesale average price increased by 0.7% compared to the previous production season.
