The Valencian Association of Farmers is urging the European Commission to increase control over the entry and labeling of foreign certified organic products following the detection of banned residues in organic grapefruits from South Africa. The grapefruits were found to contain levels of the herbicide Glufosinate exceeding the Maximum Residue Limit set by the EU. The association criticizes the European Union's permissiveness towards imported products, which poses a risk to public health and deceives European consumers.
