During the financial year from September 2022 to September 2023, Dutch dairy farms saw an increase in the average lifetime milk production of cows, with the number of cows producing over 100,000 kilograms of milk rising significantly. This increase can be partly attributed to the longer lifespan of cows, as well as a longer period between calving and sampling. The average milk production per lactation also increased, resulting in higher fat and protein production.
