Avocado farming, especially in Central and South America, has been criticized for its environmental and economic impact, including water resource monopolization and biodiversity threats. However, in Africa, the sustainable model of avocado cultivation is gaining attention as a potential source of 'green gold' or a new oil. With high global demand, avocado has become a profitable export product, particularly in Nigeria and Uganda, which aim to become major exporters. This crop is seen as a way for African farmers to combat poverty, providing an alternative to coffee, which has seen decreased prices due to market competition. The sub-Saharan African climate, suitable for avocado cultivation without irrigation, and the adoption of environmentally sustainable practices like crop rotation and reduction of pesticides, further support the sustainability of this industry.
