At the request of industry organizations, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency is preparing a proposal to the Council of Ministers to postpone the effective date of the Tariff for fees collected by the BFSA. The proposal suggests that the new implementation date should be from July 1, 2026, the Agency announced today.
The BFSA clarifies that the actions taken are in response to arguments from the sector about the need for a longer preparation period to allow operators in the food industry to adapt to the upcoming changes.
The proposed Tariff has introduced higher rates for a large number of services and control regimes - in some cases, the increases are significant (according to industry data, by tens of times for individual items). This affects both farmers and processors, as well as traders and food establishments. According to the preliminary effective date, some of the provisions should start to take effect from December 1, 2025.
